Default Preparing for Paint

I want to get my car ready for paint by getting as much of the work I can do at my house done (so its cheaper) but Im not sure what grit sand paper to use to get the old paint and clear coat off? The body is it good condition, no bondo/filler is needed. Plus what type of primer should I use? This is my first time doing this type of thing so Im kind of clueless. I want to practice on some spare parts laying around first (of course).

Any links or advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Default Re: Preparing for Paint (2point2EK)

Read the sticky, google search, ect. I would suggest to ask who ever is going to be painting it for thier preference to specific grits according to what type of paint is goin to be used. Pre-existing clear can be used as a direct surface/ substrate in some situations. If you do plan on priming and prepping, DA w/ 320 dry for priming, wet sand 360 - 800 for paint, or maybe just 500 dry for solid color.
