Default Paint question

I painted my dads car it is a 99 accord about 4 years ago. We used Kirker Paint I believe the urethane it is ultra-glo from autobodytoolmart.com I know it is not the acrylic one though. But we used clear as well the spectra series from kirker too. The paint looks great on it, but from the years of him traveling it has some spots that needs touched up, some bad scratches. We was going to clear the entire car again, because spots are every where. I wanted to know if it is possible if we can use the Dupli-color paint shop clear it is a lacquer? I just wanted to go the cheapest method, because he is hard on cars, and he is going to keep it until it dies. I know there is a rule you can spray urethane over lacquer, or lacquer over urethane I just don't know which one is which. So if anyone can tell me that would be great.

Lacquer over urethane is fine, it is the other one you need to worry about. That being said, I would use a real urethane clear. It's actually cheaper than the duplicolor, at least the kirker stuff. The duplicolor stuff is diluted pretty heavily out of the can and definitely won't hold up, also makes you need to strip all of it off if you ever want to spray urethane again.

Thank you for writing in, I will go with more spectra series, I just wanted to know for future reference. I like the urethane better anyways.

Nope. Urethane over urethane is the best. Lacquer over urethane will not result in paint lift, whereas urethane over lacquer (or uncatalyzed/fresh acrylic enamels) will result in paint lift.

i wouldn't recommend it , at all. i would cut and buff the car then make the choice if it had to be repainted. if it needs to be repainted use acrylic urethane.
