Hello well I am in the process of gathering some information before I get my whole car resprayed inside and out.I just want a few opinions on what products everyone is using and why are you guys using them whether it be price quality or ease of use.I just want to gather some personal experiences with some of the products out there.I personally favor Sikens but I have been told that Dupont chromabase and Glasurit also make very very good products so start breaking it down for everyone on each step and what you guys use. Thanks
a lot of shops i know use Sikkens. I use sikkens and Sherwin Williams. i like to use Sikkens in particular because their color matching system is one of the best... i dont know what steps you want broken down. but thats what i use.

Well I dont need the steps to do the body work I just mean what do you use and what techniques are used for each step.Everyone has differnt tastes and prefferences.I have used sikkens dupont and a few others but I am planning on doing a full respray so color matching isnt too important.I am more interested in durability and the quality of the clear since I am painting the car its original color which I believe is a three stage pearl.Let me clarify I am not the one painting the car a good friend is and he is much older and likes to use ppg.He does great work so I dont know if changing products on him is the best idea since I am unsure if the process he uses will work the same changing brands of paint.
I always felt like PPG had a narrow window for ideal sprayouts. It seemed to me it was too easy to get drips or peel. Asking someone about their techniques for each step is a tall order. I use a bunch of techniques, some times it takes a good eye, or a steady hand, but I firmly believe in practice.
I don't think that changing products on him is going to throw him off. Almost all paint is mixed and applied the same way (except like emron). The things that do change are things like the air pressure levels and the tips, and of course the amount of mixing the ratios etc etc. So whatever you get you'll be able to adjust your equipment accordingly. Maybe spray a test panel or two. If you want a clear that is durable do some research on Nason Fulthane. I like Glasurit. HOK Kosmic Clear is really good too. I donno, If it were me, I would just stay in the system if you want to be particular about the longevity. If it's PPG base, use PPG clear, if it's dupont base, use dupont clear.
Also remember that if the clear gets all screwed up for some reason, you can just sand it and buff it, or sand it and re-shoot it.
Paint is paint, but prep is completely independent of the person who does it.

Well thanks for the insight and I know that prep is the key to getting great results.Even if the best products are used and the prep work isnt done right it will not turn out well.I also am planning on staying within one family of paint products.
