Need Some paint help..
Ok so I am wanting to get a respray done on my coupe because the last owner had it painted at maaco and it looks terrible. Has water marks etched under the paint and the paint looks watered down. I want to get it done professionally and I have a $2000 budget.
I went to a body shop that had great reveiws everywhere, could not find anything negative on them. They showed me some cars that they were doing and they look like they really know what they are doing.
He said for my budget he can respray, buff, wetsand, get rid of all the tiny door dings, paint side moldings black and give me a 1 year warren on the paint.
But what has me concerned is that they cannot sand off the maaco paint with my budget and if the maaco paint starts to come up, it is NOT covered in within my warranty.
Do you think this a good price and should I worry about the maaco paint coming up. He said Maaco does some kind of prep, its not like they just spray and send the car home.
Any advice would be great on how to proceed. I dont want to cheap out but I dont want to get burned either.
Thanks for reading this novel. Lol Thanks in advance

It really just depends on what you want to do with the car. If you really really care about the outcome I would get rid of all the maaco paint. It is true some Maacos do a decent job at prepping and spraying. It really just depends on the painters at the Maaco. If I were you I would save until I can get that into my budget or the other option is doing it yourself. He is already going to prep the car so then you can go get aircraft paint stripper and bring the entire car down to bare metal. It will be some work and you will have to sand some areas too but I don't see it costing you any more than 150 to do yourself. Then you take over to the paint place.
That is my recommendation. I've been there and have had so many bad experiences with paint. Do it right the first time so you don't have to do it again. It may come out completely fine with the Maaco paint but it also may not like your saying.

^this. basically you get what you pay for. this is how body shops do their business. i would save and have it completely stripped down to bare metal if your that concerned (which it sounds like you are.)
I wouldnt go to bare metal, you have a E coat that is your corrosion protection.. If you take it to bare metal then you have the epoxy then surfacer, sand, seal, base then clear. He is getting it to where he can seal over the top then base and clear, thats why its cheaper. What is your price for this? It might also be cheap clear that will yellow in a year or basecoat that is cheap. Price for a nice paint job from a shop should be 2-4K dollars or more so that should give you an idea.
