Kandy vs. Urethane
Ok I've come to the conclusion of considering a kandy color. I'm curious compared to your conventional paint if Kandy is that much more difficult to work with>
The way I learned to paint candy coat in school, was basically to lay down a base coat (white). Then heavily reduce the color of your choice, and apply several coats, not sure if this is the correct method for candy paint jobs, but it worked. So with that method the only difference between your conventional BC/CC system is the number base coats.

Whenever I've seen candy done on TV they always use a metallic silver base. I guess it depends on the look you're going for.

Yeah think it all depends on the look you want. I think if you go with a bright white base, you want to go with a bright candy like a sour apple green or something. Not too sure, I've only seen it done when I was in school that one time.

Well I went to the book store and bought me "Advanced Custom Painting Techniques" to my luck it was published in 2003, so it is up to date. It Specifically covers "Spray Kandies and Pearls" through out the whole book. Anywho I'll give this a try but from the looks of it I will give it a try.
I'm thinking Kandy Root Beer by HOK

The best way to describe a candy it that it is a colored clear. So whatever you do witht the base will show in it. Thats how lowriders and stuff make graphics in their paint jobs. Urethane is a type of paint.
Ok after studying a bit I have come to understand painting candy is like any other paint period, there are just extra steps added. The layout i have planned is primer, basecoat (I will use the orion silver), then the candy clear (I will use Kandy Root Beer), and then the clear. It all adds up to slightly over $500

the only colors people really use on kandy paintjobs are silver, gold, white, and black. sealer, base, color, clear; it gets expensive, no way it will be $500 for hok products. the color coat is really not any harder than spraying a clear coat, you just have to be a little more even with your spraying. i wouldnt try a kandy paintjob for your first paintjob tho.
