Help on pad selection
So I have recently repaired some major scratches on a door panel, and after the clearcoat i wetsanded it with 2000 grit, leaving some pretty big fog/haze.
I use a porter cable 7424 with the white polishing pad, and 3m compound, but it is taking foreeeeeeever to remove the haze, so im guessing the white pad is not aggressive enough and not cutting into the excess clear.
which pad should I be using?

First of all using the Porter Cable, or PC, to remove wetsanding scratches is like trying to get drunk by drinking out of an eye-dropper. Technically it could be possible but it will take for ******* ever.
What you really want to do is use a good rotary polisher with a heavy cut pad and a good polish or even step all the way up to twisted wool with a good polish.
If however you are stuck using the PC I would make a couple recommendations. First, re-sand with some 3000 grit, the sanding marks from 3000 grit will be much easier to remove than those from 2000.
Second go find the heavyest cut compound you can get your hands on. Megs Diamond cut, 3m compound, Optimum Hyper Compound. Etc.
Third get the beefiest pad possible for the PC, Megs Burgandy, Lake Country Yellow. something like that. The white pad that comes with the machine is ****.
Even with the most aggressive settings possible for the PC its going to take a long time. With a rotary polisher it will literally take minutes.

yeah i didnt want to try rotary and risk burning my paint. 2 hours of buffing and I had only rubbed away a 3X16" square, so..
where can i find single pads? either im bad at searching, or they only come in huge combo packs that i dont need.definitely will resand @3000 though thanks.

Get a cheap high speed polisher from harbor freight or something like that with a 3m white convoluted pad and 6062 compound, if you have 2000 grit scratches they will be gone in a matter of seconds. Just make sure you keep the pad juiced with compound so you dont run the risk of burning the paint....G/L
