Headliner fix....
I am looking at the purchase of a '98 Accord Dx. One problem it has is the headliner cloth is starting to droop. I understand what causes this. Is there any info on removing the headboard and cloth unit and then scraping off the old materiel and glue? then reglueing new cloth?
Does the factory manual or Chilton's cover this sort of repair?
Thanks.
Ken

or you can take your headliner off
then take the cloth off and either get new cloth and cut it to size then go to an autoparts store or crafts store and buy cloth adhesive it will be in a spray can then you jsut spray it on the board and cloth and then like pull the material and shape it to the board with a , i cant think of the word umm.... the plastic scrapper you use to lay down filler ("bondo")

headliner is stuck on a molded board
im not sure what the stuff is made out of its like a foam kinda
anyway
we have a store on the east coast called joann fabrics
I am sure you must have one in your local strip mall
you see all the women going in there and they have big bolts of fabric
welp get up the nerve to enter no mans land
and go in and find a sales person as fast as you can
and ask them for headliner fabric
it comes in a few basic colors gray blue black tan .....
it has a foam backing on it
what you do is take the old stuff off and clean the board real good
then spray 3M spray adheasive on the foam side of the fabric
and on the headliner board
you have to wait about 20 minutes for the stuf to completely dry so you
can touch it and its not tacky
then get some news paper
stick the headliner board on something clean like your garage floor
then put the news paper on top of the headliner board
expose the front edge of the board about 6 inches or so then place the
headliner fabric on top of the newspaper and
IMPORTANT
start at the center of the board and work your way out to the edges
as you work along
move the newspaper so you can expose both glued sides to eachother
the spray adheasive wont stick to the newspaper once it is dry
but once the two glued sides touch
you cant get them apart without taring them up
so thats how you do it
make sure your headliner fabric is larger then the headliner board
by 6 inchs all around
and use a clean squeegie or bondo applicator to make sure both sided are
pressed together real good
GOOD LUCK
its not a easy thing to do but
for $15 for the fabric and spray adheasive its worth wasting an afternoon
also dont skimp on the quality of the spray adheasive
get 3M brand they seem to be the best
you may need to hit a autobody store to get some
