Fixing rust questions?
It'll depend on how far you want to go with it and how bad the rust is. New paint never precisely matches old paint, even if it's only because it's glossier. Whenever you repaint a part, you need to decide how much, if any, extra painting you want to do. For example, if you need to fix a 2" wide surface rust spot on the door then the minimum you need to do is a spot repair, fixing and painting a 3" wide area followed by blending the repair into the rest of the door. Better ways would be to repaint the whole outside of the door, the whole door, the whole side of the car or the best repair gets a complete paint job so all of the paint matches perfectly. Usually the whole outside of the part is repainted and the adjacent panels or rest of that side of the car gets buffed to better match the fresh paint.
See if the rust is through to the other side. Measure or at least estimate how big the rusted area is and what panel(s) it is on. Think about how good of a job you want. This info will help people to estimate the cost.
