now onto your question, you need to take all the chrome off with sandpaper "by hand" and primer it and toss on some automotive paint with a clearcoat.
I have tried sanding the chrome off or at least scratching it really well with 220->400->600 grit and the paint dries and it comes right off..
honestly buy some aftermarket rice nonsense and use them if you must..
