now onto your question, you need to take all the chrome off with sandpaper "by hand" and primer it and toss on some automotive paint with a clearcoat.

I have tried sanding the chrome off or at least scratching it really well with 220->400->600 grit and the paint dries and it comes right off..

honestly buy some aftermarket rice nonsense and use them if you must..

I did mine . Sanded with 240 grit , epoxy primer , base and clear coat envirobase from ppg

 

and has it chap or crack on scratch yet

Flat Black

 

I took my silver ones and painted them with flat black wheel paint... I didn't sand or anything. That was a year ago, still looks like it did on day 1.
