I hope this is in the right section but I'm looking to change the color of my dash.
It's grey and I want to make it black. Can I just paint it? I'm sure it's been done before so does anyone have any pointers? Is there a vinly specific paint? What color matches the factory best? Will I have to use a specific clear coat? Should I just take it to an upholstrey shop? Thanks in advance

There is a special vinyl additive we can mix in with our paint that will allow you to paint a dash, we did so on an Impala SS that we restored. I will find out specific numbers for you tomorrow but its a dupont product. Everything will have to be scuffed with a grey scotchbrite but I have seen the results and they came out fantastic

Connecticut, I will write a note to myself to get that product number for you. I am almost positive you just mix your paint like you are going to do a basecoat and then you mix in the vinyl additive. I wish I got pictures of that Impala that came in

find someone that sells -sems- vinyl dye. you can clean the dash really good, wipe with lacquer thinner just a few moments before spraying, and apply three thin coats to the dash. it never come off, best dye on the market.

Great info dude. Just wondering what's the best way to deep clean the dash? Will rubbing alcohol work or will just basic soap and water do. The reason I ask that is because I wanna make sure the paint sticks good and has a clean finish. Also what the hell is lacquer thinner and where can I buy it?
EDIT>>>>>Okay I found the dye online and about to purchase it. Which color dye best matches oem honda black: landau black, satin black or gloss black

you can get it from o'reilys. once you scuff it, use wax and grease remover, then wipe that off, apply adheasion promoter, then dye. If you don't get the wax remover off good it will fish eye, and if ou don't scuff it and clean it with the was and grease remover the dye will not stick due to the natural oils in your hands. I did not clean my steering wheel good ad its flaking.
Heres a pic of my dash, door panels, and console they were tan.
I also used the RIT dye on my carpet, I am very pleased. Be sure to use adheasion promotor tho expecially on hard plastic. It will falke off badly. good luck
