Default John Deere Problems

Does anybody out there know anything about diesels. I was trying to get my grandpa's tractor running today and it wouldn't start. It hasn't been started in a couple of years. It has new fuel in it. I cleaned the fuel filter and fuel lines. I tried to crank it up while squirting alittle diesel fuel and gasoline mixture in the intake manifold. It acted like it wanted to crank up but still wouldn't start. when the rpms got high it made a bad tapping noise. any ideas? thanks.
