Re: oilchange
What vehicle Julie?
No offense, but if your friend doesn’t know the tranny drain from the oil drain, I’m not too sure I’d have that friend do any work on my vehicle.
that being said, and if I understand your message correctly, the trans fluid was accidentally drained and fresh oil was added to the old oil already in the crankcase.
I'd do another oil and filter change, making sure to put the proper spec and amount of oil back in the engine. I'd also put the proper spec and amount of OEM trans fluid into the transmission. Assuming this is a Honda automatic, always check the trans fluid level with the engine hot, on level ground, and within 60 to 90 seconds of engine shutdown. If you check it like a conventional automatic with the engine idling while in Park or Neutral, you will underfill the transmission.
the good news is you’ll have a fresh change of oil and a fresh change of trans fluid. If your vehicle is a Honda earlier than 2011 model year, you likely have ATF Z1 trans fluid. I believe sometime in model year 2011 Honda changed to DW-1 trans fluid which is compatible with the older Z-1 fluid. However, in order to change over to the newer DW-1 trans fluid, you’ll need to do 4 drain and fill operations back to back with some driving in between using all gears including reverse in order to get a good fluid mix. That will get you to about 88% DW-1 fluid.
in my 2006 Pilot and 2008 Ridgeline, it takes about 3.5 quarts per each drain and fill. So you’ll need about 14 quarts of trans fluid to complete the fluid change if your vehicle is similar to mine. Probably cheaper to buy a case of 12 quarts plus 2 quarts if doing this yourself.

Re: oilchange
My thoughts exactly if he doesn’t know what drain plug belongs to what. If he added transmission fluid to the engine in lieu of engine oil it won’t harm the engine as transmission fluid is highly detergent and will clean the engine just don’t keep driving it for weeks. This is actually an old hot rodders trick. I used to this all the time prior to an oil change. Hopefully you got a new crush washer for the oil drain plug. As far as the transmission is concerned drain and fill with the appropriate transmission fluid. Good luck 🍀
