They give people with modified exhausts tickets because despite what you might think the majority of the general public thinks your car sounds like **** and is annoyed by it.

If you keep it down and dont drive like a jerk off you are not going to get a ticket. I have 3" all the way back and have never gotten a ticket.

 

I have yet to get a ticket or pulled over for my own 3" exhaust. i have watched most of my friends get tickets though, and your right on the reason why they got them. Drivin like a dumb @$$. and the evo2 cat back sounds like crap. I just dont like bein followed because dumb ricers and other idiots rallyin on the roads. pretty sure you can agree with me on that.

 

not sure on WA. but OR. is limmited to 93db.
In WA. im sure there is prolly a db limit.
In OR. if you test at 93.1 you are in violation. if you get ticketed, go through deq that day. Deq will test it and if you pass take your deq paperwork to court.

diy silencer might help. take a used soup can cut half the bottom as if to open the can to eat. pull that tab down out of the bottom of the can and drill a hole in the top. stuff your muffler tip with steel wool, put a hole in your muffler tip and and put a nut/bolt through can/tip. this will reduce the amount of sound coming out, and temp reduce the hydrocarbons being released from the system. paint it black and it will be harder to see

 

Or just put the silencer that comes with the exhaust in.

 

I don't know about all of this, but I'm running test pipe at the moment(yes loud), but I was on 405 with my exhaust almost silent and got pulled over bya stater. He was telling me he was going to be looking out for me, and said he could impound my car if he pulled me over 3 times for modded exhaust, since it's something besides factory.
Is this true??

 

hmmm i don't know, i've never been told that. All i have been told is that the exhaust ticket doubles until its like 200ish then stays there.

I have never been pulled over in this car in over 2 years. Why? I drive the speed limit, I obey traffic laws, and I present myself like a normal, productive citizen. Don't wear your hat sideways and don't drive like an idiot and you should be cool.

I go on ride along with Sheriff friends...it's not hard to pick out the bad apples...

I recently got cited with a Modified exhaust ticket by a city police officer. It was late at night, no other cars on the road, and i believe he originally pulled me over to check if i had been drinking.

Anyways, i received the ticket and went to court. The judge read the officers statement and dismissed the ticket right away. He dismissed it on the grounds that the officer did not specify how loud my exhaust was, he simply did not mention anything at all about how loud it was, even no comparison to another vehicle.

I'm not sure how other judges would rule, but it was pretty nice not having to say a word, other than "thanks". haha

 

question....my resonator is off of an integra, since that's the exhaust my buddy was using, and it sits hella low, and i'm only lowered 1.8 inches on teins and I scrap on everything. if I were to replace it with a test pipe, would it really be that loud? I have an rsx muffler, and unless I'm over like 4500 RPM's you really can't here my motor at all. just wanting a cheaper solution than buying a oem resonator and it being the same size and scraping on everything.

 

hmm i don't know, all i have is 1 resonator *dunno what kind or what its off of* and my muffler... and my car is quiet. i'm sure it will be fine, also my exhaust sits a lil low around the B pipe too.. but i don't hit.. you can fit about a finger and 1/2 between my tire and fender.. i don't like my car really low, speed bumps scare me.

 

How about you just leave a stock exhaust and slap in a K20 motor?

 

Just get your car registered out of state. Dont have to meet emissions, ride height, exhuast Db, none of that crap. I hand them my washington registration and point a finger at the address on the paper work, infering they should go pound sand elsewhere. Such a wonderful loophole, since I doubt many WA police or troopers are well informed on the state of Ohio's vehicle regs, I for the most part have nothing to worry about as long as no speeding, running red lights, etc.....

 

i know this thread is old, but im looking for a good exhaust more so muffler.. i have a 2.5 from header all the way to the muffler.. and i want something to match 2.5in.. to 2.5 out.. or 3, but i dont want it to be a fart can, i have that now and its annoying as ****.

 

I own a fully built H22 (stage 2 Jun) with straight pipe, Ive been stopped three times by police and every time they threaten the 124$ ticket on me. Its so annoying.

 

yes.... yes it is, i got pulled over last tuesday and the officer is giving me 3 weeks to get a silencer or something on it.. he said "As long as i see an attempt to quiet down your muffler ill tend to leave those cars alone" i think that's decent.. but im just sick of the fart can look lol.

I got pulled over last summer on 405 in kirkland and i was just cruising. It was a state patrol officer and he had just finished pulling someone else over. He just gave me a warning but told me the same thing about getting impounded after the 3rd time. I think it has to do with the officer mostly. Im sure driving like a civilized person doesnt hurt though.

 

yea i don't drive like a retard i take my time where ever i go. but i just want to get maybe an oval muffler or something.. they seem to be a bit quieter but i don't want to buy a full catback system. the last muffler i had was quiet and i liked it .. this last one i had to put on sucks ***.. and is loud as hell... before i could fart while driving 70 and hear it.. now i can sneeze and not hear it

any suggestions?

 

I currently have no muffler at all. Actually, nothing is bolted on after the cat and its surprisingly quiet. I have never been pulled over for muffler reasons and the one time I did get pulled over (speeding) the officer never said anything about my missing exhaust.

Mostly dumb luck on my part as I know that no muffler is blatantly illegal.

 

Unless the trooper is a car enthusiast himself, I'm certain 95% of them don't know the difference between a ricer and a real enthusiast.

Besides, they seem to pick on us import guys only.
I actually saw a guy in a diesel truck get pulled over! It made my day!
Those are what are obnoxious. Dual 3" exhaust is more loud and annoying than the HS kid with a catless exhaust with an APC muffler.

 

i have never been pulled over by a state trooper for my exhaust.. when i go over the border to Canada or back its usually the US side that gives me **** * go figure* they ask if i have a Modified exhaust.. and its horribly obvious.. i say "NO" and smile...
