Whats the best HID kit?
www.ddmtuning.com, i dont work for them i just suggest them b/c its cheap but key they offer lifetime warranty, cheaper than anyone i see on h-t.com
the way i see it if you are paying 175 or less you are getting some chinese based ballast. so might as well get the cheapest one you can find since its the same anyways, but while you at it might as well get the life time warranty.

I paid $125 for the kit, the same ones are selling for $95 shipped now I believe. Not too sure but quality components (solid state) - highly recommend!!!
Most retrofit guys sell harnesses that will pull from the battery. I've done the plug and play thing and ended up with a burnt harness. Soldered in new connections and changed to a harness that pulls from the battery, never had an issue. McCulloch with 4800 (I think, don't recall the color) was the second go around. It's the way I'll go again once I get my retros on.
I agree. Using a relay harness is definitely a more reliable way of installing an HID kit.
Our Xtreme kit comes with a unique dual relay harness meaning that each side has it's own independent wire harness. The wire harness has it's own fuse and relay. The benefit to this is that if a fuse/relay ever goes out on you only one side will be effected. If your harness only has one fuse/relay for both sides if one goes out so do both your headlights.

I've had 3 kits (for 3 different cars) from hidworld.com and I've never had a problem with any of them. One kit I had for 2 and a half years till I sold the car, another for a year and a half and the ones in my si for about a year now. All were 35w 6000k's
Warm up is my biggest issue. I have Customlightz retros and replaced the HID kits twice. My current kit will not even go on when I turn on the headlights. I have run the car a while and keep trying to the light switch over and over. Eventually, they come on. Not sure what I can do about this. Any ideas? The car is not run often so I assume this is part of the issue.

I believe so. I am running the harness that Customlightz sent with the retro.
We are going to be replacing the motor in the next few month. When the car is apart I was thinking about swapping out the harness for something else.
What do you think?

if the system is directly wired to the battery and your headlight switch provides the 12v signal in the relay system you shouldn't have any issues unless you have bad ballasts
It sounds like the switch is not supplying 12V or the relay may be possibly corroded.
I don't know if it is the ballast though as it would be unusual for both to fail/ignite at the same time given that they are independent of the other.

Also if the car is not run often the battery may be getting depleted some and voltage may be creeping down until you have alternator charging the system for a bit. This you can check by reading the battery voltage between the poles.

Here's my $.02. I've had 4 kits in 2 different Tegs, so been around the block a few. Had cheap Chinese kits, bulbs blew quick and had ballast/starting problems. Often(especially when raining out(?)) one bulb would fire up and one wouldn't). Phillips/McCullogh are good but $$$. I've bought 2 different MTEC kits, which are Japanese and have the starter/ballast integrated. As long as these kits have been around now, don't buy a cheaper kit with separate starter/ballast boxes. They're probably Chinese, cheaper, more to install.
I had an MTEC 4300 kit and was very bright, looked like stock BMW/Acura HIDs. Went to an MTEC 6000K, pure white, looks great in my silver GS-R and doesn't blind anyone. Never been flashed. Had the bulbs in 4 years, still work great, zero probs. Think they have an ebay store(MTEC Power?). Not trying to plug them but kits were $250 and quality very high. Been very happy with the kit, would stick with them from now on. I like having a Japanese kit in a Japanese car, but that's just me.

MTEC is made in Zhu Hai, China not Japan, that is just a lie perpetuated by the vendors.

Well don't I look like an a****le
......actually looked into the MTEC and everything I found said it was actually from the land of the rising sun. Still think it's a good kit tho.....had nada problemos with it and the light output is good for the projectors not being retrofit. Anyone know any quality kits that actually are Japanese, or is Chinese quality just not an issue anymore? I had kits from back in the day when they weren't even plug/play, I had to tape the wires to the socket so it would stay lit. Seems like they keep getting better/cheaper so maybe price isn't that indicative of quality anymore.

As a Quality Engineer who oversees approved suppliers for Military/D.O.D. and Aerospace, I can tell you that the language barrier, and target market is what drives quality down in China. Why build a factory that requires employees to be trained in ISO/AS9100 and international standards just to produce a select number of valuable parts, when you can create the same factory that is capable of producing large quantities of cheap parts that can go to any market, where the end-user doesn't care as long as it doesn't break the bank they can send it back if it breaks. You can't make both at the same location, trust me.
That said, what is a good HID kit for my ITR? I have been looking at the PnP kits, but I also suspect that I require some other projector lense other than my stock US Integra units?

how much is one of ur dual relay harness
going all out, huh? you should either install hid's the proper way with a retrofit or not do it at all. nothing worse than some idiot with hid bulbs in his stock headlights blinding everybody at night. as for a retrofit, it'll cost you somewhere around $800-$1k for a new setup.
these are aftermarket projectors, and the HID(PnP) not so blinding when they are adjusted properly.

best of all they are around 55 dollars. I dunno, $800 just doesn't seem worth it to me.

have fun talking your way out of that ticket... colored headlights are illegal
btw the blue and purple ones you see generally arent illegal. its just the ones that use a coating to make a color that are.
