what is rebased and non-rebased?

 

the first kit as you can tell says philips on the ballasts


mod express kit does not.... not sure why but thats probably a generic picture...

best to call them up and confirm if its an actual ballast or not.


im not sure why the refer to ballasts as rebased vs non-rebased either... usually thats in reference to bulbs only but what they probably mean is the components of the ballasts may be genuine philips or it could just be copies... because most of the chinese HID kits are.

 

The first looks genuine philips but there used to be some good clones being made for a while... The second pic shows the more A-typical ebay clone ballast that has the same general shape as the Philips/Hella gen 3 ballas but notice no vent and the power plug is turned on it's side... And even better this pic shows the guts:

and this pic is one I took with two ebay ballasts (left and middle) and a real Hella Gen 3 ballast (same as the philips of the same shape/type):


Notice how the two ebay units and the Mod-express's units look vastly different from the genuine ballast...

As per the rebased comment, the aftermarket companies don't use the standard style round base bulbs as well as the connectors, so to use rebased bulbs they modifty the connector to use AMP or KET connectors...
