noob question

to those of you with h.i.d setups how hard was the install? and what brand or site do you recommend? btw i have an 00 em1

It depends upon whether you're performing a retrofit or using a drop-in kit. Many "kits" are essentially just plug-and-play, but the output is not going to be ideal.

If you're buying a Plug and Play kit, it should be extreamly straight foward.
