Default Lighting Questions

Hey all,

So I've come to the point where I am extremely interested in HIDs. Retrofits look very appealing. Though, I don't know if I can justify the money for headlights, especially like $800 to have them done. I found this site and it seems like they have good stuff and decent prices. Has anyone bought from them? Also, for those that have done retrofits, how long does it take normally? I could probably set aside 4 days to do them, would that be enough?

Next, interior lighting. I've seen cars (Preludes and others) with the dash lights replaced with LEDs and I like the look. I was considering white LEDs to make the white paint job. Any idea of how this would look? I also have an abundance of blue LEDs, so I could do that too. How hard/time consuming is the process? Is it worth it?

Car is a 1998 Prelude Base.

Thanks!

A lot of people over at the HIDplanet forums swear by TheRetrofitSource.

that is a great site and tons of people buy stuff from them.
4 days should be enough, just take your time, and 800 seems a bit to much...
people have pulled it off for less then half.

alot of people do the led thing as well. i switched my lights, but no leds, and i love them, all red to match my deck. im not sure i would led as it can be a bit bright. i like my normal lights.

$800 is alot, Im sure with some patience you could peice it together and do it yourself for half that.I know everyone bashes Ebay, but Ive got quite a few complete headlights(projector, ballast, and bulb) for $150 or so.

I have seen people get them done for $800, I'm looking at a DIY for around $300.

Are the dash lights just white/yellow lights with color filter? I could just change the filter. The dimmer should still work with the LEDs which might keep the brightness down.

I'm glad the Retrofit Source is reputable, they seem like a great source. I will look to Ebay for some stuff too.

800 is way to much and they got ripped off.

no with led dash lights you have to bypass the dimmer, your not supposed to dim leds, its bad for them, so im told. and eveytime i have seen leds you have to bypass the dimmer for them to work.

look into buying a KIT off retrofit source. get it all at one time.

Ok, I will look into the dimmer thing.

TRS seems to have some good kits, I will probably go that route just to make sure I get everything I need.

Well it looks like with LEDs you can dim them but it doesn't work very well. They have a very nonlinear response to dimming, therefore they are bright most of the way and then get dark real quick. If it becomes a big deal, I can work something out, but I will just keep the dimmer for now.
