my friend has an 02 altima and both HIDs won't turn on. any way to check if its the bulbs or ballasts without getting electocuted ?

*disclamer* i don't know much about altimas, but the dealer wants to charge "$500 for bulb replacement" so i assume they have HIDs (3.5 liter model)

Make sure you take the bulb out of the headlight and touch it with your oily fingers.

That's assuming that it lights up in the first place.

LOLERCAUST

awesome, Plug the **** into another car.

I really doubt the wiring went bad or the ballasts.

Multimeter would make short work of that, fo sho!

Re: how to check HID bulb (vtecnique69)
OEM D2R bulbs are only $100 for pair or less on eBay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVW

Both bulbs going out are less likely, they should last the lifetime of your vehicle. Does the bulb flicker at all when you turn it on? It should 'click' when you first turn on (sound of the mechanical switch). If you don't hear any click then chances are there may be other issues like the fuse & simple things.

Unless you take apart the HID ballast housings & short the capacitors you're not going to get zapped.

EDIT: I guess Altima's use D2R's not D2S's.

Re: how to check HID bulb (nek0)
i'll double check tomorrow, but nothing clicks and the bulbs won't flicker. they just don't turn on. the high beams work though so thats how she's been driving lately.

i thought it was odd that both lights wouldnt turn on so i figured someone in GDD might be able to give me some insight.

where would i probe with the multimeter, the bulb harness?

Re: how to check HID bulb (vtecnique69)
if you hear 0 noise at all (not even buzzing from the ballasts??) then you likely blew a fuse

Re: (vtecnique69)
bulbs turns to purple color and lose lumens....besides 02 altima is not that old to colorshift...
ballasts are not getting power somehow...check the fuses first and check the ballasts...i know that's easy to say...
I have spare ballasts just in case..so I just have to plug in

I would definitely check the fuses first.
