Default HIDs In My 98 Civic

I just put a HID kit into my 98 civic. It looks gr8. I cant help but feel that the light output tho is not up to par with some of the newer cars i see with the HID lights. The lenses are crystal clear. I'm thinking about removing the diffuser in the lens. Has anyone else tried this? I have a old set of headlights and i removed the diffuser and tonight I'm going to hook one of my lights to it and compare it to the diffused light. Just to clarify, the diffuser is the piece of metal that surrounds the light bulb to deflect the light back to the silver surface and out the plastic lens.

It's not "up to par" because the cars you see are using actual purpose-built HID headlamps, not halogen headlamps with an HID kit, and the Civic headlamps are rather poor to begin with. Removing the shield in the housings will only result in increased glare for other drivers. It's not a good idea.

X2.

You can retrofit different projectors into your civics headlights and have an awesome projection. Just search "HID retrofit" and you'll get plenty of results

As if the HID kit isn't blinding enough.

i readjusted the beam as to be considerate to my fellow drivers. they are no less blinding than a stock hid setup. just gotta keep up with the times. i decided not to remove the diffuser after seeing the results with the spare i had.

Your hid bulbs come with a glare sheild ( the thing you are calling a difuser) to project the light beam straight forward instead of bouncing downwards, then up in to drivers eyes like a high beam path.

BTW what k are you running? I am running 8000k in my 96 coupe, nobody has complained about being blinded passing, or criusing behind me there just not as bright as factory 4300k systems, but much brighter then stock halogens by far. I'm happy with my HIDs

People will be pissed driving pass by you. And as mentioned, run 4300k for the most output if you are not already.

96-00 Civic headlight isn't designed correctly to distribute HID lighting! Do yourself and all the other drivers around you a favor and look into doing a retrofit to your stock civic headlights. You will be amazed by the light output and will truly be able to enjoy the benefits of an HID kit on your civic, not to mention you won't have on coming traffic high beam you Good luck

PNP kits suck. Do it the right way.
