burning the fixture is a drawback of HIDs, it COULD happen in any car with and light fixture, unless the fixture states otherwise by manufacturer.

It's possible, but please don't put HIDs in your headlights. The light will scatter everywhere and you will end up blinding oncoming traffic.

And just for ***** and giggles, HID bulbs operate at 35watts compared to their halogen counterparts which operate at 55watts. It will not melt the housing of any headlights period.

I have seen someone retrofit an OEM HID projector into JDM housings, and polish the flutes out of the plastic lens in front of the projector. That's the only proper way to get HID on a DA. Any other method will suck, I can guarantee that 100%.

I heard its ok to get HIDs without a projector if you get the D2R bulbs. Theyre made with a glare guard strip on the bulb to help it reflect the correct way in reflector housings. D2S is for projectors. Also, HIDs wont blind on coming traffic if you just adjust your headlights correctly, and get the right bulbs for the right housings.

It's still a lot better to retro projectors into your lights though, the cutoff will be a LOT better

From what I've seen, D2R bulbs in halogen reflector housings are still pretty poor. Yeah you can keep them from having alot of glare if you use the correct shielding, but you still don't get the light performance you need on the ground in front of the car.

Hell, I don't even like OEM HID reflector headlights. The previous gen Maximas w/ reflector HID was one of the worst OEM HID setups on the road, according to the rating chart that I've seen on the lighting FAQ site.

I have no direct experience with the Maxima reflector HID setup, but the system in my QX4 is quite good. The cutoff is not as razor sharp as a projector setup, but it is still very well controlled, and the beam pattern and dispersion is nice and even. Just as there are some projector setups that perform better than others, I think you'll find that so too are there varying levels of performance with reflector-based systems.

Post a pic of your output on a wall from at least 25 feet away.
