Default HID problems

I just bought a 98 Civic Ex and one of the previous owners apparently hooked it up to run HID bulbs. I noticed the high beams don't work so I got some bi-xenon HID replacement bulbs on amazon (http://www.amazon.com/XenTec-8000K-B.../dp/B0013CRF8Y). I don't really know anything about HID so I don't know if the kit is capable of running high beams but I thought it would be good to have backups just in case.

I tried installing one of the new HID bulbs and I can't seem to get it to fit in the housing like the current one fits. It is an H4 bulb which is what is printed on the front of my headlight housing and it looks exactly like the current bulbs I have but it gets stuck when I try to put it in. What could be going on? I was going to have Pep Boy's take a look at it but apparently they won't install things they don't sell.

After some research, I have realized your high beam delete is because of the style of your bulb. In order to get high beams you need bi-xenon or other dual application bulbs. This problem you have is very common and is not a big deal IMO. I'm just getting into the world of hid so don't take what I'm saying as 100% true. Also, stock bulbs are made in a way so that high beams vs. low beams are set by position of illuminated filament in the bulb. Halogen bulbs look like this inside {--_/ --)]=. When your low beams are on, the light shines in the metal coil inside this section: {--_/. The fillament or "coil" is represented by my illustration as --. When the high beam setting is on, the coils illuminated switches to the rear section of the bulb that looks like this: --)]= (closer to the engine).

I'm sure different manufactures have different specs on their bulbs. I recommend going to www.hidplanet.com and doing some research. The quick fix to your problem is removing the hid components and old housings and getting a new set of housings and buy some halogen bulbs for now.
