Default Having strange problems with headlights..

So when I bought my car the high beams didn't work. I took the combination switch off and tested it and it seemed that the high beam part was broken.

So I ordered a new combination switch off ebay and now my high beams won't work AND my left headlight is out. I'm thinking it might be the plugs for the headlights because they look pretty corroded but I'm not exactly sure.

Anyone have any idea what it could be? Possibly wiring?

(The new combination switch tests fine)

Popped open the plugs for my headlights today and this is what I found.. Seems like some kind of grease? Not sure if its supposed to be there or not..
