Default dual beam HID

I just got this 99 civic hatchback with pnp HID's I believe. They plug straight into the facory harness but I dont have any high beams. They turn completely off when the high beams are turned on. There are two black wires coming out of what seems top be a smaller light beside the main bulb that are not connected. could that be the problem. I dont know anything about HID's. thank you

that sounds like just city lights that are disconnected.

with MOST HIDs(WITH THE EXCEPTION OF BI-XENON SPECIFIC ONES) you will lose one beam or the other.

I'd reccomend you take out the shitty PnP kit, and just get good h4 bulbs such as the GE nighthawk....your visibility will be improved but you won't have that "uber cool colors" most people get.

or if you want the best lighting possible do a retrofit. again you will still only have one beam choice UNLESS you go with a bi-xenon projector but just about anything is better than PnP kits

It's good to see you're helping him with his problem; first that's not a city light, it's the "high beam", second he's not asking for an opinion he's asking for help and finally why typing anything if you're not going to even attempt to help?

As per the OP's question, there should be two wires coming out of the wiring harness that's plugged into the factory harness as well, these two wires will need to be attached to the two coming off the pnp bulb. This was how my buddies 9007's were set up...

seeing as how there is only 1 filament per side on about 99% of EK lights I've ever seen what else could it be?

other than that what did I say that wouldn't be informative/helpful whether it was directly related to his question or not.

The dude was asking why his high beams don't work.....unless you have a bi-xenon setup(shitty PnP or retro) you will ALWAYS lose 1 beam or the other on single filament headlights depending on how you wire it simple as that hammer:

Huh on all the 96-00 civic's I've ever seen they're dual filament bulbs (H4's), so with a pnp kit with "a smaller light beside the main bulb" means it's HID low, Halogen high:

You didn't address the actual question by clarifying or asking where exactly the little bulb is, if he'd said "I've got a wierd little bulb below/besides my headlight bulb, how do I get that working" that'd lend towards being a city light.

True, but he never said he didn't have a bi-xenon set up, from what it sounds like he just purchased the car and has no clue on what's being used....

As I said, the kit my buddy had for his 9007's had a mini bulb with two wires coming out of the base below that bulb next to the hid bulb that needed to be connected to the loose wires from the headlight plug...

whatever it was low beam or city light I figured out the problem and after some caredul deliberation it just was not connected to the power source. I got one side to work but the other side would not. now though i have a bigger problem.

I disconnected the HID setup and put factory bulbs in and now I dont have any high beams. The switch clicks but the dash indicator light for the high beams does not come on. Is it possible that its just the switch or do i have a bigger problem. thanks

Well since you say you have no indicator come on when you flash your highs, I would say to check your fuses, see if the high beam fuses are blown. Also are you sure all the wires that need to be hooked up fr both filaments are hooked up?

i thought the high beams and low beams are on the same fuses. are there any relays or anything that i am missing that might be blown?

i don't know about relays, but the highs and lows are on separate fuses. At least in my car they are. I have a 98 ex.

no.. each side has its own high and low beam fuse

a total of 4 10amp fuses...

if they put them on the same circuit, it would be a bad thing.. cause if you blow a fuse.. you lose all of your primary lighting!

everyone wants to talk crap no one ever wants to help.

the peanut IS the high beam. though its not very bright.

broketuner, if you spent more time tuning and less time talking **** on ther internet, you might learn something. 350 posts a month on average... when do you find time to do anything other than talk about the things you could have done.

here is what you have and how it needs to be wired.

plug in the middle of the pic plugs into OEM headlight harness from car, plug to the left goes into the HID BALLAST. hid bulb on the right, halogen peanut bulb on the left.
