i have no clue... why do you ask? my understanding of a city light was just drilling a hole and adding an amber bulb to the headlight housing, but i could be wrong

Would be easy to do. I would look into larger LEDs for it. I would also use a rubber dough nut from the hardware store to hold it in place of the corresponding hole you will have to drill

brought this back to see if anyone else had insight as I am doing the same

I wouldnt want to put anything that sleeves over a bulb.. Just doesnt seem like a good idea..

I'd drill small hole and put like a 5 watt LED in there.. Maybe even one that isnt so bright..

You trying to do something like this? just use a 5w wedge bulb. but youd have to figure out a way to mount it, the e34 has a long tube w/ a socket that the bulb plugs into. the tube then plugs into the headlight

city light illuminates the whole bulb.

With led's the issue is heat, those 5 watt's burn up quick

depends on how the light is made, bimmers have a partition in them so that it doesnt illuminate the entire light. W5 filiment bulb should not burn up too quick at all and an LED will be even cooler

It is not an actual sleeve. It is a protruding piece that sticks out below the bulb. Actually a nice piece but it does not allow for a 194 bulb... so you could not put an LED in there.

What heat issue do you speak of? I had city lights built into the housings on my GTI and I had LEDs in there with no trouble. Plus there is no filament to burn out

Only problem I had was LEDs are pretty directional and you could not see it well at all angles. So I was hoping someone knew of a LED that spread the light more

The heat issue was in reference to my 5 watt LED idea. They are some of the newest LED's out and are also the brightest. They can also get quite hot..

I see what yuo mean about the sleeve now, kinda cool. Might be worth making something similar for an H4 bulb..

Also, about the LEDs, angle it back towards the reflector and it should work great. If you point the LED out towards the front of the car it wont work well at all, as little, if any light will be bounce around the reflector.
