Default 97 civic hid kit installation(problems after)

I just put a 5k hid kit in my black housing headlights. I didnt read up on it to much before hand unfortunately.. The problem im having which is probably obvious is that my beams are going everywhere and about 20 feet in the air.. Probably blinding everyone driving by. I found a old DIY thread but there was no pics in it and I didnt quite understand what I need to do. Can someone enlighten me please? It would be much appreciated.

You need to either do a projector retrofit, or get projector headlights.

Putting aftermarket plug&play HID kits in a reflector housing will give you bad results like that....especially on '96-00 Civic headlights.

This. A PnP HID kit will put out light that is probably not as good as a good halogen like the Phillips X-Treme.

A projector retrofit solves that problem by focusing the light where it needs to go.

Last I checked, theforumretrofitters quoted me ~$320 with shipping both ways to have my headlights retrofitted with morimoto minis.

You can buy all the stuff to do that same setup for around $200.

You could also try looking around. I got my projectors in a straight trade for my OEMs.

Thanks guys.. Yea it sucks because i just bought the black housing headlights off ebay. If I new it was going to be like this I would have got the projectors.. Im going to try and contact the seller see if i can get a refund. If not, retrofitting it I guess..

You're still in good shape, just retrofit the headlight you bought off eBay. The Civic headlights that have "projectors" are lame, they aren't true projectors like using a TL or FX projector.

Yea that sounds like a good idea. I was looking at all them and there way to flashy for my taste.. Why would i have audi running lights if im not an audi?! Doesnt look right to me.. Will probably go to the wrecking yards out here and try to get a pair of headlights for cheap

Go over to hidplanet.com and look through the builds. You'll find a lot of the same style you're going for.
