K24 Build Questions
This post will be a little long just because I’m asking really specific questions so apologies for that.
I’m currently building a k24a1 from the bottom up. I stripped the block im polishing the crank, tomorrow im degreasing the block to take it this week to be blasted/ machined/ powder coated. I have a lot of questions honestly that I’ve tried doing some research on but came up empty so I figured I’d make a post to see if anyone here had them. For reference my power goal is 450-500 but I want to build the engine with internals that are a little overkill just in case I want to add a little more boost. K swap is going into a del sol SI
1. I’m looking to do a full CRV awd swap and I know there’s an issue with the synchro on third gear so I’m going to upgrade to the synchrotech rebuild kit but I’m curious if there’s any oem gear sets that have a better ratio than the CRV gear set that are also compatible with that transmission.
2. As a cylinder head was originally going to go with a k20z3 head but I read on here that k24 heads have more material to remove for porting and flow better when ported so I decided to pick up the k24z7 head (ill get to why in a second) I’ll be sending my cams to BC to be reground into a stage 2 profile but before I do I heard someone did a swap on one of these heads to convert the exhaust cam to vtec by swapping the rocker assembly, is that possible or is it bullshit?I picked the z7 head because of a video I saw, someone was comparing the k24 heads and mentioned someone (I believe 4pistonracing but I could be wrong) did a test between ported k24 heads and this one flowed the best when ported.
3. I’m also split on my ecu decision. I was originally going to run hondata to save a little money but I’m thinking about doing a haltech instead because it’s not that much more and it seems like a better overall ecu. I’ll be honest I’m not really that knowledgeable on ecu’s or tuning them so I don’t know what the best option for me is I’m open to suggestions.
4. Is there a difference between the k20z3 oil pumps, and the rest of the k20 oil pumps? Does it produce higher oil pressure? Or do all of the k20 oil pumps produce higher pressure?
