K for dummies?
Just trying to increase my knowledge mostly for conversation then actually doing a swap into my Honda Civic,
I happened to see a 2012 Civic with a 6-speed part-out ad,. I thought to myself, "that sounds odd" did they have a 6-speed in 2012?
It's taken me a couple of years to learn about engine transmission mating on Ford
Is this transmission mating to engines also as confusing with Honda in general?
I've see JDM all over the place! It's a shame we don't have something like them for American cars!
So for conversation's sake, do you take a whole K20 or k24 engine and transmission as a package with the harnesses ECM and everything else for transplant into an older car? That is pretty much what is done with American cars and trucks, although I'm too old to get into any of this I still like to learn
TIA!

First step, engine series, D, B, K, H, J, L and so on.
Just about everything swaps around between engine series. Save for a few exceptions.
Honda has had 6 speed manuals for some time now. 2004 Acura TSX is probably one of the earliest.
Yes, complete engine, transmission, wire harness, and PCM would be the ideal way to swap. Need to be slightly cautious with the newer stuff as it goes full CAN bus for instrument cluster output. There is also a plethora of aftermarket standalone PCMs that fully work with Honda engines.
If you a decent with electronics the CAN bus might be easier to adapt to older gauges and would certainly be more flexible. You will need hardware to convert CAN to whatever your gauges support.
