New Member Saying Hello...
Hello everyone, my name is John. Let me start by putting this out there officially. I'm a complete and total beginner (noob if you will) at the car scene in general. I've worked on cars before in the past, yes. However this has always been as a gopher, so to speak, role.
My reason for subscribing to this thread is to learn what I can about the car I've bought. The Honda Civic EX with the 1.7L VTEC 4 cylinder engine. This car was purchased for a mere $500 from a small mechanics shop. The car runs and drives like a dream to be quite honest. With only 3 problems a scanner could come up with, which I won't really go into detail here as I've already started repairing those (simple things I DO happen to know already). My question here is, is it feasible to actually put any kind of money into the performance of this car? Not that I will not actually be racing this car, it'll still be more of a daily driver type of vehicle. I would just like to see a bit more power in the lower gears. Say coming off of a red light. It does still have the automatic transmission, which, if I'm noting correctly, is a 4-speed automatic? Is it worth adding the 5-speed transmission (which I found decently affordable at another mechanic shop somewhere else)? Would adding anything like a CAI be worth the money? Any tips/tricks and/or help would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to seeing what ideas I might come up with from this forum. Thanks for taking the time to read, and please, if any other information is needed, just ask.
