my first CRV
Greetings!
I'm a new owner of a 1999 CRV EX AWD. Prior to purchasing it, spent hours on this board reading past posts regarding maintenance, valve adjustments, timing belt/water pumps, lifting, racks, etc etc. Just wanted to thank all your abundant knowledge of this great little vehicle.
The Gen1 CRV really appeals to me, great little box shape, economical, and mild and tasteful customization ideas. So...
what I bought was a 99 CRV EX AWD
- 167K miles
- timing belt/water pump changed at 150K
- no accident
- valve adjusted at 165k
- everything works, including the clock!
what I did the weekend I purchased:
- I painted the bumpers and trim with Rustoleum trim spray paint
- Plasti Dip the wheels
- added an allen tire bike rack and secured it with two bike locks so no one can take it while out mtn biking
what I need to do ASAP:
- Went to honda technician. He hooked it up to some handheld computer and said its in great condition, however, the gas cap doesn't fit in properly. I ordered a new OEM one, should arrive next week, if that works great check engine light gone. If not, could be the fuel neck, will have to spend time on youtube to figure how to change this one.
what I want to do is:
- add a roof rack basket cage (long one, almost length of the roof) currently naked roof
- lift or not lift, saw some people add 225/75/15 tires and filing down so it doesnt rub. or perhaps lift. Not decided yet. Don't think i'll ever go off roading, but it looks so cool
- add bull bar and maybe some oem fog lights on the bull bar, not decided on the fog lights yet.
Anyway, just wanted to say hello, introduce myself and say thanks for all your posts. Spent about 2 mths on this board and test driving dozens of Gen1 CRVs until I found my mightmouse (silly nick name, but so fitting in my opinion)

Thabks for the welcome.
I noticed a slight hesitation sometimes from 2nd to 3rd gear on the AT tranny going up on an inclined road. But only up an incline road, shifts fine any other time. The previous owner did a double tran fluid flush at 165k when doing a valve adjustment.
Ive been putting in lucas oil fuel treatment at fill up and noticed a littlw improvement in power, but not much.
When buying thia crv i planned on only driving it on weekends local trips, but ive been using it daily (commute is only 20miles total) since its more dun to drive and has more charming than my 2012 camry

i never used a A/T except wen taking my driving test , but otherwise i was always told u the best/ oem juicyest fluid. & wen u change it drop the pan & clean it / change the filter & slowly drain it. so idk ur procedure , i think honda trans r off checks . but u would drain a 1/4 qt & pour a 1/4 qt of new fluid n . run it n neutral for like 5 min & repeat till u feel that u rid ur trans of all the old fluid. I feel that would b best cause u dont kno what he did to the trans

Are you the guy selling the running boards on eBay? Your Vs look very similar.
I dig it. I just picked up a 99 EX AWD a few months back. Been looking for OEM running boards, rear nerf bar, and oem jdm center console armrest.
If it's the 4 speed like mine it seems like they just hold gear for a long time when torque is needed. Unless it's shifting hard when it does shift you're fine.
If you get a rumble under hard u-turns change the rear diff fluid. Super simple to do and makes all the difference.
The OEM accessories are retarded expensive!

They're also called side steps. The OEM part name is running boards though.

The little step running the length under the doors. The nerf bar is even more rare. It protects the hitch, the muffler, and the bumper from light impact.

The running boards go for $350 a pair on average and the nerf bar goes for almost as much by itself!
I wanted the running boards because my kids are too small to climb in without help. Then I saw the nerf bar and had to have it LOL.

Thanks for the tran oil tip.
Also, would like to see offroad pics. Post them please.
Are are the 215 75 tires on them?
And, no not selling anything on ebay. But the running boards look cool. Not sure what it does for a crv though

It makes it easier for my 3 year old to get in and looks great... not much else LOL.
No serious offroading has even been attempted yet. I need to get the suspension done first. Here's a pic of the bigger tires. I'll probably want to go even bigger after the suspension lift LOL. Don't want to lose to much torque though if I'm going off road.
i did the same thing , i had a nitrous iron block hyundai & used to drag it all the time . now i bought a honda & like 2 weeks later i built a b20 & dropped it n a honda coupe . i went ***** deep on the first date.
