Looking for some information
I very recently purchased a 2023 CRF125f big wheel, and I’m looking to make some upgrades. I’ve ridden ATV’s all my life, and I ride street bikes frequently(cruisers), but this is my first dirt bike. I bought this little bike to learn on, and when I’m comfortable I’ll move to something larger. I went riding this past weekend, and noticed that there are a couple issues I need to address if I’m going to get the experience I need. The first issue I think will be simple to correct. The rear suspension seems rather weak, and feels like it comes close to bottoming out sometimes. I’m sure that can be improved by replacing the shock with something stiffer, or adjustable. The other issue may be a little more complex. When trail riding, there are times when you need to be able to pick the front tire up just a little without slowing down, and it doesn’t do that unless I downshift to 2nd, or even 1st gear. Now the bike is brand new, and I am trying to follow the break in period recommendations, so I wasn’t giving it hell, but no matter what I did, the front tire wouldn’t come up when I needed it to. I’m talking about maybe an inch or 2 of the ground, like when going over a small tree limb or something like that. What can I do to help that? I thought about going with a front sprocket with 1 more tooth, and a rear sprocket with 1 or 2 less, but I’m not sure how much difference that will make. Does anyone have any good ideas? I know it’s a small bike, but I only weigh about 140lbs, so it’s not like it has to struggle with me on it, and in 1st gear, from a slow roll, it has no problem picking the front wheel up as high as you want it to go. Obviously I don’t want to be shifting to 1st every time I need the front tire up a little though! Like I said, the bike is brand new, and 100% stock at this point! Any help will be greatly appreciated!
