Hey there
Joined today to see what advice you guys and gals have to offer.
My foster son and I were taken taken a bit on a 2001 accord 2dr. It seemed ok and we were told when we bought it he would stand behind the car 100%.
He moved out of state 2 days later.... So we had paid $1500 knowing it needed tires and an alignment. Well it really turned out to need new brakes, some electrical, some engine, suspension, AND then the tires and an alignment.... so $2200 later the car was running nicely and safely. Skip ahead 6 months and the youngin says when he stops, it 'bumps' and sometimes when he is driving, especially when passing, the RPM gets very high but the car does not accelerate. so I take it for a drive and notice it doing exactly what he says, it's definitely slipping between gears (it's an automatic) and sometimes at stops it fully engages and wants to move forward. So we take it to a good shop and they tell us the transmission is going out and needs replaced,, it will be around $1800-$2200.... for a used transmission. Oh boy... The motor has a couple of oil leaks and runs good, but not great. Would this be a good candidate to swap another complete motor/transmission into? Are there any other Hondas that can be swapped right out? I really want to do what I can for him, he worked really hard for over a year working two part time jobs and went to high school full time saving for this car, to lose it all.... Money is tight, so whatever we do is gonna hurt...
Any ideas would sure be appreciated!
