Back in a Honda
Hello, All.
Back in a Honda after a few years. Had a 99 Civic EX back in 06-08, lightly modded, just some suspension and exhaust, ended up selling it to move on to "sportier" cars. Had a '90 Miata (only car I regret selling), an '88 Supra, an '04 WRX and an '02 Jetta Wagon turbo that recently popped the headgasket. Dumped that last one because I was already trying to sell it and the popped headgasket put me over the edge...lost my butt on that car, having dumped a few grand into the car within the last 12 months.
Decided I wanted to relive the good ol' days and spent three weeks trying to find a Civic in Phoenix that wasn't riced out, beat to heck or just a complete pile of junk. I was about to give up when I found my new car. '99 Civic EX (as if fate were trying to tell me something), 185K on it, not too worried about those miles, my old 99 EX hit 250K on the factory motor (also, I am planning either a single cam build or potentially a b-series swap in the future anyway so I doubt this motor will hit 220K before being pulled). Clean inside and out (and not "clean" like a craigslist ad, but actually CLEAN).
No smoke, noises, grinds, etc on test drive, checked the computer, all emissions monitors have run, no codes, good to go. The car is completely stock, down to the factory stereo. The only negative I have found on the car is that the valve cover gasket has a slow leak, which will be handled tomorrow, along with all new fluids, an alignment, re-balance tires and possibly a few other things. A lot of those I am sure it doesn't need, but I have time to kill as I was going to be using tomorrow to look at cars originally.
Looking forward to slowly (and tastefully) modifying this car, although, an alarm and/or kill switch are probably going to be the first on the list.

I'll post some eventually, need to properly wash and wax it first, the car was sitting and covered in dust. Nothing to write home about, silver 99 EX coupe still on factory steel wheels with hubcaps.
Did order a set of energy suspension shifter bushing today, still trying to find a GSR shifter, I may just have to break down and order the B&M shifter instead, although two of the guys I work with that are really into Hondas have both told me that I am going to accelerate wear in the transmission with an aftermarket short shifter.
