Hi, I have joined this to get information and help. I have a 1990 Honda Civic 6 sp AWD wagon. I love this little car, and replaced engine a couple years ago. Recently I had some problems, and my mechanic told me this car needed a new clutch and I needed to take it to Honda place in The Dalles OR. I did, and was informed by the service dept that it did NOT need a new clutch, the clutch just needed adjusting... but I needed a new radiator as it was rusting out and needed replaced. Because I didn't need the new clutch, based on what they said, I had them do the work of replacing radiator and tune up on car for $834. Driving home, the clutch started slipping going up hill. So I called them back (I live 50 miles away), and they say, after a lot of BS that perhaps it is transmission. To make a long story short, the clutch needs to be replaced, but the money I would have used for that was used on stuff that could have waited. So I had to get a loan. My sister, who gave me the loan suggested I replace the transmission while having new clutch put in. Since the car has 240,000 miles on it, it seemed prudent to do.
Now.... I made a bad mistake here. I contacted a company saying it had a used transmission, SW Engines in Oklahoma, and I STUPIDLY ordered the transmission without checking this company out with anyone... I was desperate. I have since learned this is a bad company, and cancelling this order will cost me an additional $200 and they will only refund $590 of the $790 charged.
So I am at a loss of where I can get a good used transmission for this car that is reasonable in costs. I know it is difficult being it is 5 sp manual with SL gear, but where can I go and not get ripped off? I am 59 and on SSI disability so my funds are pretty limited. Can anyone help and direct me??
