Hello everyone!
My name is Tara. I am from New Hampshire and love anything that is as old or older than I am.
When I was 14, I bought a red 1991 CRX HF. My parents weren't happy with me, thinking it wasn't a reliable car and made me sell it. Now that I am older, I want to start a car collection and the first car I bought was a red 1991 CRX HF with only 93,000 miles!
Hi Tara- That is a beautiful ride! I have also owned 2 HF models, one white and one red. Where are you in NH? I am on the Seacoast bordering Maine. I know a local guy who owns a few CRX vehicles and works on them. I know someone else who owns and works on CRX vehicles in Tiverton, RI. He also has an extensive salvage yard of Honda and Acura vehicles including the CRX. -Matt
Hi Matty!
I am from central NH.
That's good to know there is someone with lots of Honda parts. I am finding that there is more wrong with this car than the dealer told me. I purchased this car online without seeing it for myself and had it shipped to me. The dealer took photos and sent them to me but made sure he hid things from me. The windshield has a large crack across the bottom that is preventing it from getting inspected but he took the photo at an angle that hid that crack. I took it for a ride last night and found that the shifter has way too much play in it so I will have to replace the shift linkage before I can get it inspected. He also failed to mention that the clutch and exhaust have been replaced with performance parts so eventually I will be replacing those with stock parts. I want to keep it as original as possible.
Hi Tara- Are you a member of CRX Community as well? Which website did you use online to purchase the CRX? Do you have a DX, Si, or HF model? It's getting harder finding any good deals. I spent a lot of time researching and finding a red HF model in Long Island a few years ago. I ended up being the second owner and should have held onto it. I practically gave it away a year before the pandemic prices. Just like you, my parents gave me the same negative reaction both times when I purchased my first CRX a number of years ago and second CRX. There was nothing wrong with either vehicle. I gave people more rides in my first CRX (passenger seat and hatch) than any other vehicle I have owned.
I was recently driving a Ford C-Max that my father had leased. Then he wanted me to buy it from him after the lease was up. I didn't think that was fair since I previously had a car that was intentionally purchased at a much lower price and fully paid off. A lot of people don't understand the value of these cars. The highest sale I have seen for a CRX in mint condition is $40k. That is astronomical compared to the original retail price.
I have been in touch with the salvage yard owner in RI. He still drives his CRX too. If you want to discuss further, my number is 201-615-6847. -Matt
I joined the CRX Community just the other day. I found the car on Edmunds but purchased it from JC's Auto Sales in Mount Vernon, Ohio. It's the HF model. The driver who delivered my car said he got more offers to buy the car than any other vehicle he's delivered. They're great little cars and so hard to find. Last one I saw on the road was at least 15 years ago.
$40k?! Wow!
I'm currently deciding whether I should just replace the whole shift linkage or if I can get away with just replacing the u-joints.
Hi Tara- How are you? How is the car running? I was just curious where you get stock parts. I've been searching for HF models from time to time. Currently, I drive a black 2015 Honda Accord EX but miss the style and simplicity of the CRX. Have you met any other members or CRX enthusiasts?
