Ello im looking to purchase a used 02 civic but the car has been sitting for a couple months and the person selling it doesnt know much about the car as well as me too is there anything recommended to look for on a car thats been sitting for a while without being driven besides the battery? Walk away.

In my experience, that's a cop-out for a seller who knows damn well it's a POS.

This is only my opinion, but check for leaks of all kind check all suspension and bushings, make sure it starts and doesn’t smoke out of the muffler, listen to it for knocks ticks clicks any weird noises, run the heater make sure it doesn’t leak under the dash, let the car warm up to normal temp check for leaks again. Check all the lights and switches ( I mean every button and switch you can find), check tires of coarse... im getting lost in this now but CHECK EVERYTHING!!!
p.s. check all the fluids before starting the car and after, make sure the car goes into every gear with the car off and running ...

This case has about 7 BILLION possibilities! :-) There are as many car deals out there as there are people on the Earth.
I recently bought a '02 Civic LX. I was sold a car that had a hidden defect. After a few weeks of driving, the engine started overheating. The cylinder head was warped. The engine needed THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS worth of work!
I had to spend A WHOLE LOT OF TIME AND MONEY on fixing the engine.
Live and learn.
