Default z6 swap gone wrong

im trying to help my friend with his swap. here are the facts:

ITS NOT THE DISTRIBUTOR

d16z6 into a 91 dx

using d15 harness, using obd1 p28, with new obd1/0 conversion harness.

it cranks but doesnt start up, no spark

fuel is perfect (MPFI wiring done correctly). removed fuel rail, cranked ignition, injectors fire in normal sequence.

the distributor is perfect, just pulled it out of his brothers running z6 motor.

i thought it was the wiring at the distributor, but all his wiring seems to match the info i found here on h-t, with one exception: his directions have the orange going to orange, and thin white going to white, where my directions say to run the orange (harness side) to white(dizzy) and thin white(harness) to orange(dizzy side).

after swapping those wires, still no spark, so i switched them back, but which is the correct wiring for that??

i dont see anywhere else the wiring could be wrong, the swap is too simple.
his grounds seem intact etc...

as far as codes are concerned, when i put the jumper in and turned the key in the on position, it just blinks a single pulse constantly, no real sequenced codes like i expected...

im so lost, this doesnt make any sense. i can do an h22 swap from scratch and have it start up on the first try, but i cant figure out where this guy went wrong on his simple d16z6 swap.... i wish i was there from the begining...

forgot to note:

he left a few plugs "un-plugged" like the fan switch/temp sensor/tps, but i thought it should still start up without those and run like crap... should at least be spark.
