what would be the first mod/bolt on (engine performance wise, besides a turbo kit) that you would get if you have a b18c1 swap? skunk2 manifold, jdm 4-1 header......?

well, if you're planning on going turbo in the near future then I would start buying parts that would make your future turbo car run better. The manifold would be a good idea and opening up the exhaust also. Good luck.

The single biggest gain in overall speed and power for my car was a 2001 JDM TypeR Transmission. The 4.785 Final Drive makes you scream through the gears. The LSD was also a huge plus. The only bad thing with this setup is the LSD is only good for up to 350 hp(I may be wrong, correct me if I am), so depending on how nuts you go you may not be ale to use the LSD. I know that making alot of horsepower is awesome but you need to get that horsepower on the ground to make that horsepower useful, so an LSD would be a great upgrade. The gear breakdown on the 2001 JDM TypeR Tranny is like this.....1st gear is same as USDM R.....2nd Gear is same as USDM R.........3rd Gear is same as USDM R......4th Gear is same as USDM GSR.......5th Gear is same as USDM GSR. That is my 02 cents.

I agree that gearing and LSD will make the biggest difference.

SELL your GS-R tranny to someone who's really hurting for one. I sold an old GS-R tranny for $950.00 before! I've seen used JDM ITR trannies go for $1,200.00. The main thing is that you really need to search for a 1998-up JDM tranny, beecause it has the 4.78 FD.

I've got a B18C5 swap in my 1992 hatch and I added an ATS 4.929 final drive.

**** that thing is bad-***! It really rips through the gears with so much ease now.

Anyways, i/h/e really don't do much at all for the GS-R motor - I KNOW because before my B18C5 swap I had a GS-R swap in the same car. Take it from EXPERIENCE, and NOT some magazine voo-doo bullshit. i/h/e will cost you around $1,000-$1,200 depending on which ones you go with.

AEM intake - $200.00
DC JDM 4-1 w/testpipe - $350.00
Tanabe/Apex-i, etc. exhaust - $500.00-$600.00

Wasted money in my opinion. While the tranny upgrade won't get you any "bad-***" points at the local hangout, it WILL win you more races and help you corner better if you have an LSD too.

After the tranny upgrade, get the Skunk2 manifold and a reprogrammed ECU. The Skunk2 sucks **** if you don't have an ECU to match it. I know Kenji on H-T will do your ECU for $150.00. He's great - I'm running his ECU on my ITR and it puts out 175whp with onyl intake and exhaust - stock exhaust manifold.

Then get some ITR or Skunk2 cams and you will be running TONS better. You can add the header and exhaust LATER. The intake is NOT necessary. The stock airbox flows plenty good - SPOON, Mugen, Toda all use Honda airboxes with drop-in filters. Yeah, I know that cams need header/exhaust to perform better, but the cams in conjunction with the Skunk2 manifold and ECU will be bad-***!

For an exhaust you can just have custom mandrel bent piping to a really nice muffler - piping might run $150.00 and the muffler another $150-$200.

Hope that helps some...
