What Tranny to use?
I am currently building a hybrid motor with a LS bottom end and a GSR head and ECU. What would be the best tranny for this set up, and where could I find one. Thanks for the info.
ls vtec motor should use any b series tranny. If you want lsd then get something like ys1, if you want to save some cash then try the y1, course those are cable. hydraulic is more expensive and all... you want to run cable or hydro??? i can give you the gear ratios and types, i have a tranny here but it is cable and has no lsd, does have ctr gearing though.
Umm..its really not up to him...it more depends on what year car the engine is being dropped into. If its going in a 92+ Civic or 94+ Integra...you NEED a hydrulic tranny, if its older..then a cable tranny will do. (They do have conversion kits to use cable trannies on hydrulic cars..but why bother?)
For LSVTEC stay away from an Integra LS tranny..the gears are shitty. A GSR, B16 Del Sol, 99-00 SI, or Type R tranny will work great.

you reall don't NEED a hydro tranny. Yes there are kits on the market that will allow you to run a cable in a 92+ chassis. I know that the cable tranny is good for scca, and the hydro is good for drag. The kits aren't that expensive to buy and if you do get a kit then it comes with a urathane top motor mount. I was runnin a cable tranny in my 94 and it worked great. So it really is still up to you. It all just depends on what type of driving and how much you want to spend.
