I just installed my h22a into 92 civic

I started for the first time today and one crank--it fired right up with steady idle and engine light for egr code. I revved it a little and a loud whining noise can be heard

It's my timing belt--I replaced it before the install and now its being eaten up buy the tensioner pulley.

Any one changed a timing belt on a civic with a h22a---please help with procedures.

What is the best way without having to take motor out. I have a hydraulic tensioner thats also a biatch to install----also whats up with the maintenance bolt that I have to stick in from the hole by the intermediate shaft? where do i get that from.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

i guess your tensioner must be bad. the best thing for you to do is pull the motor up enough so you have room to work. unfortunately that's the only way your going to be able to do it. about the maintenance hole on the balance shaft: there's a bolt on the back of the block (10 mm socket size), it's an access bolt. you need to take that out, and with your WHOLE motor at TDC, put a fairly long (about 4" long) bolt, small enough in diameter, so it can go through the balance shaft. you'll feel it go through and you shouldn't be able to turn that balance shaft with that bolt in place. you don't need to do this procedure for the front balance shaft. btw: i suggest while your doing all this work, to change to a h23 tensioner. changing a timing belt in the future will be so much easier. you won't even need to pull the motor. do you have a helms?
