Default thinking about a b18b

I have 95 civic coupe, and I am debating on whether or not to swap a b18c or a b18b into my car in the spring. I plan on going doing the swap with aspirations of going turbo in another year. I've heard many things about what engine to get, which one is better, and so forth.

i just wanted to know, what do you think i should do, go with the b18b because its
1) Cheaper to prurchase
2) its easier to go turbo with a non vtec application
3) Gear Ratios in the S80 tranny are longer than the gsr tranny, meaning more time at boost.

or, should I just get the b18c and go from there.

also, if you think i should get the b18b, what other internal mods could I do to prepare for the turbo application?

thanks for your help...i've been doing searches, but I wanted to ask this question straight out..thanks guys!

i say go with the b18b if u know for sure you gonna turbo later....all the parts are dirt cheap when stuff breaks later on compared to vtec stuff...

I say the opposite get the gsr....I have a fast LS, but it took allot of $$$$$$$$$$ to get it that way, so in the long run it would have been cheaper to get a itr motor VTEC is always going to be faster than non-vtec and can get faster for cheaper than the LS

what about the guys making like 230 hp and 198 lbs/torque with the ls motor? it seems that all they had to do was a rev-hard or drag and then some fuel enhancements... that seems pretty reasonable...

If you are thinking about upgrading internals then you might as well get a b18C.....one of the top reasons why people turbo LS's over a GSR is because the LS has lower compression and you can boost more......

I'd say if your gonna go w/ the non-vtec b18b then you might as well get the extra displacement of a b20b/z. I've seen them turbo'd to well over 500+ whp. But for all motor I would go with a bored out itr motor.

lower compression is a factor, but anything can happen with proper air/fuel.. You will actually get MORE power out of the higher compression motor, but again you must be on top of exhaust temps, a/f, etc etc to combat detonation..

To answer the topic, I'd get a GSR motor also.. Regardless of the type of setup u want, it's the best all-around starting point for any street setup.. My motor is still internally stock and I ran 12s on the bottle and now with the Greddy GSR kit at 0.4 bar (6.1lbs), 3rd and 4th (the gears I have traction in) are even faster than on the bottle.. With slicks, I'm certain low-low 12s with the turbo and mid-12s on the bottle..

I personally would go with the B18b if I were going turbo, just cus I known more people with fast turboed LS's than fast turboed GSR's. Don't know hwy that is though.

Don't judge the tranny by it's case number either:

S80 could be a GS-R, LS, or even a Type R tranny. S80 just means it's from an Integra chassis.

And get the GS-R motor. If you have it tuned properly it will *** rape the LS motor with the same set-up in terms of boost and what not. People say LS turbo because they're cheap, which is true, but there is more power potential with the GS-R turbo set-up. VTEC and boost go great when done CORRECTLY.

I hate to use this example because it is an extreme, but how many current drag racers run the LS motor in their 9 and 10 second cars? Now how many run VTEC motors like the B16A and B18C?
