Stroking a B16A by swapping B18C block?
I was wondering if this has ever been done: Is it possible to "stroke" the B16A (1-series JDM 10:2CR) to 1.8L with a B18C block? Would it be a straightforward swap or is there a technical snag to this approach?

There should not be a problem simply swapping in a 1.8 vtec block between your Si tranny and head. Get yourself a good block and a new set of gasgets, have a comparable shop do the work. You won't be "stroking" anything, because you have not altered the crank, but you will have a motor with more displacement and a spare B16a block to sell or save for another project.
If you wish to attain more displacement (40cc) by using an LS block (1.8 non-vtec) and altering your head to be fitted onto the block, you will be looking at more work, time and money. HTH

no b18c and b16b block are taller then b16a therfore you can NOT just put the crank and rods to make a stroker of b16a with (b18a/b/c parts)....
b17a crank and rods do work in a b16a making it 1.7 (1650cc vs. 1595cc)....since b17a used b16a block...
by using b18c block and crank/rods adding b16a head is whats called a poorman's ITR (same as type R motor)....just remember that using the b16a head in GSR (b18c) will yield lower compression...therfore swap your b16a pistons to get it back .....

I don't know if I would exactly say that an LS/VTEC 'is the same' as a stock typeR motor. Although the LS/VTEC offers excellent power potential, the powerband and rev-ability of the motor are not 'exact' making them not 'the same'. Currently building an LS/VTEC, I sometimes wonder if I should just spend the few extra dollars and pick up a JDM typeR motor...

b18C blocks are getting hard to come by, if I could find one complete for under $800 I would pick it up... some areas will have better prices.

Hey thanks AJ and 92Si...I thought I pretty much had all the honda engine info down. Good to know there is more to learn.
I wonder what kind of hp and Tq gains one would see by using a b17 crank in a b16a motor??

is the .2 differnece in compression ratio between the GSR pistons and the b16 pistons that much of a difference?
