Default Which Speed Sensor (VSS) should I use?

Car: 1992 Integra GSR
OBD Type: OBD-I
ECU: Stock P61 (Stock GSR ECU)
Engine: B16A (2nd Gen, JDM)
Transmission: Cable YS1 (Stock GSR Transmission)

First off, I wanted to give a quick explanation of my situation. I am currently in the process of removing the power steering pump, reservoir, and some of the lines from my 92 Integra GSR. Integras come standard with power steering, and I do not wish to change out the rack for the slower (but easier to turn) civic rack.

Since my Integra uses a mechanical speed sensor that also acts as the metering device for the power steering, it requires me to keep the lines connected when I remove the rest of the components for lubrication of the top end of the speed sensor, or to disconnect them completely which could possibly seize the top of the speed sensor.

A friend of mine told me that I can possibly use an 88-91 EF/CRX speed sensor that was made for a non-PS equipped car. This way I can avoid having to keep the power steering lines hooked up to the speed sensor and not worry about a lack of lubrication for the top of the speed sensor? What should I look out for as far as choosing a speed sensor for this application?

I haven't done this personally, but logically, yes you can use an 88-91 civic mechanical VSS in your integra, since both 88-91 civic/crx and 90-93 integra chassis's both use that type of VSS. try it out, couldn't hurt.

Does anyone happen to know if that the external dimensions are identical?
As in, are the following the same:
-Round seal diameter, so I won't have tranny leaks
-Gear size
-Gear spline type

While logically I know it could work, I'm just trying to get an idea if it will physically fit and from what (transmission, year of car, model of car, trim level) it will work?

yep it should fit.
i mean I've used a 95-95 sohc electronical vss on a 94+ b-series transmission before.

Don't most EF's use transmissions that mate up to D-series engines?

Are D-Series and B-Series vehicle speed sensors interchangeable?

Yup, I've used a 93 DX Electrical VSS in my friends DX motor and put it into his 1st Gen B16A... Also have done it the other way 88 CRX DX mechanical speed sensor into B16A from Jspec XSi which came with a electrical one...
