So, yes any B series engine will pass smog, they will send you to a smog referee and he will spend around an hour inspecting your vehicle. I have not yet heard about anyone with a H22.

Super: Do you have a Bar sticker? I know that you need one to prevent getting tickets from the CHP or locals. There have been other topics recently if you do a search for BAR you will find them. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=82612 here I got the link to that one.

if you want to pass legitimately (meaning not being harassed by the pigs everytime you get pulled over) you'll need a bar sticker. that is the only way to prove that your car is smog legal with a swapped engine meaning it shows that you have all the emission equipment in place.

you have to setup an appt with your local bureau of automotive repair (BAR) to get it smogged there. once you pass, you'll get the bar sticker there immediately. and i've heard that there smog equipment is online with the DMV and they'll know whether you passed or failed immediatlely. and make sure all of your smog equipment is on and in good condition and best thing to do is to give your car a tune up before you go along with a new cat if yours is old and clean out the throttle body as well. as you should know, the law states that you can swap out a motor that is the same year or newer than the chassis and the motor has to be the same manufacturer as the chassis as well.
here's the number to the BAR: 1-800-952-5210. you'll have to setup an appt through them but i'm not sure if number is for your area as well. hope this helps

if all the smog equipment is in good condition and like i said, just to be on the safe side, tune up your car. but the usdm engines should pass smog with no problem with all the smog equipment intact
