Default Reliability of swapped honda

I've been researching hybrid honda's for a few months now and one of the few things I"ve been hesistant to is the reliability of a swapped car. I know hondas got terrific reliability and wanted to know aslong as a reputable shop does it and it's done to the "t" will reliability be sacrificed w/ a b16 or b18 swapped into a 5th gen civic hb/coupe?

Thanks for any and all help,

Greg

depending on the shop and the person's skills of swaping motors properly. the reliability of honda can still be just as good. a b16 into an eg can be done to the point where it could almost be just as good as would be from the factory. if it is an obd1 b16/b18 going into an obd1 car, then the chances are if it is wired and set up right, it will run as i would from the factory.

Thanks for the quick replies.
One more quick thing, may sound stupid but i won't be able to call any shops til tuesday (work all day monday) and I want to know, most shops that do quite a bit of these swaps, would they know how to let me keep A/C? A/C is a big thing for me since it'll be a daily driver?

Thanks,

Greg

Depending on which swap. But as a general rule you can keep anything that the donor car had. As in PS/AC/ and in some cases ABS, if wanted.
My buddie and i swaped a H22 (prelude motor) in a 96 HB and he was able to use PS. now granted we had to do some custom work for the lines but it works...

Your not thinking of going to CIP in East Stroudsburg are you? They the absolute worst shop ever and they WAY overcharge for the work they do, especially swaps.

sorry, I just noticed you were from East Stroudsburg...I'm from Scranton, welcome to the board =P

Oh no, i'd never go to CIP, i've heard too many horror stories. They quoted a buddy of mine $6,000 - $7,000 in parts and labor for a b16 into a 5th gen hb.

I know of a few shops in Nj, if you could would u be able to recommend me to any reputable shops in Pa.

Also, hmotorsonline, in their complete engine packages do they include everything need to keep p/s and a/c?

Thanks,

Greg

Hybrid civics are 110% reliable (knock on wood)

and my advice is learn all about it and DIY ... no one else will treat your car like you will. my opinion is if you can swap the motor youself you have no business with it in your car.

Have places swap your motors is for serious pussies or spoiled rich *********.

yeah dude, the best advice is to get a helms manual and do it yourself. Its really not a hard swap at all anybody can do it. I personally think the hardest part is when you DON'T have air tools, then it can suck

But yeah, just get a few friends and rent a cherry picker and do it yourself. Get a a complete change over from hmotoronline or IAS or Sohfast or something.

hybrids are as reliable as the motor that you purchase and the skills of the mechanic installing it

if you think about the internals for reliability. a b18 would be better. It has a bigger block which allows the rods to be less at an angle.

As with any swap you are going to run into some problems sooner or later. Especially if you race it, something will eventually go. But I think thats the best part, working on your oun car and knowing that you just whip somebody *** and it was all because of your hard work and love for the sport.

You will have what I have affectionately called SWAP woes.

Everyone with a swap always gets them. They are more fustrating them actual detrimental problems.

The only problems I've ever had have all been due to driver error . But all in all, every car will have a problem here and there. If a swap is done correctly, it will be just as reliable as any other car. Most of our problems come from the way we drive our cars. My single cam 4-door has 10,000 times more problems than my hatch does, and mostly because of the way I treat it.

In Reponse to the b18 being more reliable... the b16a actually has the squarest ?? bottom end of all the b series honda (stock).

the rod ratio is near perfect on the b16a

B16a's will run forever if you never rev'em up high..

Once you start hitting 9500 RPM all day.. youll notice a little smoke here and there.

If a B series is done properly your car should run like a factory Honda
