Default problems in B16A?

ever since i put in my B16A, my radiator fan doesn't work, i've had to change the alternator, i've had minor oil leakage from the cam seals, slight idle problems, tranny grinds once in awhile when shifting hard to second, and sometimes in reverse, and now i'm working on distributor problem. Does anyone else have problems like this??? or am i the only unlucky EF B16A owner??

Except for the radiator fan and the alternator, sounds like we're in the same boat... about the funky idle, does yours also hesitate when you hold it at a steady RPM while driving sometimes?

Sounds like you have an air bubble in the coolant lines somewhere, try bleeding it off.

its used to do that alot...but i believe it had something to do with fuel? because i put in a Fields SFC Vtec controller and played with the fuel settings..and it got better, but once in awhile...when i'm holding it steady in first..it will hesitate...wish i knew the complete cure! keke

what does having an air bubble in the coolant lines affect? the idling? hesitation? radiator fan? hmm...how much would i have to bleed off to fix it?

Air bubble??? well i had some of those but i fixed em by putting water up to the min line in the rad recovery tank, then went out and drove the **** out of my car to get it up to and beyond temp, they seem to have dissappeared. I had a shitty dist, but i thinki it was from the ecm. i had to rewire the fan swotch in my ecm so it would work, everything is working good on my ecm now and i have no problems cept for my new 4 day old type r tranny leakin.

You're actually supposed to fix bubbles in your coolant lines by
a) waiting until the car's dead cold
b) removing the radiator cap and filling up the overflow tank to the max level
c) Starting your car, turning your heater on full blast, and letting it run until it's fully warm
d) watching for bubbles in the radiator

I've already bled my coolant lines; I was just seeing if his problem was the same as mine. My problem's actually caused by the cams not being *quite* degreed correctly; I'm going to need to get adjustable cam sprockets to fix this. I replaced the belt on my B16A with a Del Sol VTEC belt and it doesn't fit quite right .

What i'm courious about is if you are all running the jdm B16 ecm. I had a few problems like you are describing but nothing as bad. I went to a 94 vtec del slo ecm and havn't had problems. I was also thinking about trying a gsr ecm too, just for fun. any of you tried the gsr one???

Interesting... I never thought about changing the ECU (I'm running the JDM PR3 B16A ECU), but if you say it works (and redegreeing the cams doesn't) at least it's another option .

Default just my .02 cents

hesitation and weird idle usually caused by fouled 02 sensor...take it off and use a torch or bunsen burner to heat it up and clean it gently with a wire brush ...guaranteed to fix the problem or your money back...

I've got an air/fuel ratio meter, and it's unrelated to the air/fuel ratio...

But I like the idea!

Didn't have a problem with the b16a in our 89. We have a b17a with a t3/t4 in it now. The only problem we have had is that the ECU is for a automatic b16a. The rev limit is 7800 and vtec is 4500 but it has run both engines fine. We are going to chip the ecu to 9500 for the next engine.

i kinda have those problems too, the radiator fan comes on eratically and my car overheats cause of that? i wired the radiator fan to a switch and manually switch it on and it doesn't overheat anymore, and the car idles funny sometimes but no big deal, and it smells like burning oil everytime i drive it hard
