I have a 98 civic ex with an ls vtec swap. Gsr head on b18b block. When I bought the motor it came with a chipped obd1 p72 ecu and obd2->obd1 wire harness. With my stock p2p ecu, the motor runs. Runs like crap, but runs. With the p72, I get no fuel but it will run if i prime the fuel lines using the stock ecu, then switch to the p72, for 20sec or so until it clears the fuel line. Is there any modifications I need to make to use the p72 because I would like to use this one to get rid of cel for 2nd o2 sensor and ckf sensor. Tia.
Anyone have a clue? Can it be that the ecu jumper harness is no good? I know this is frowned upon but when I jump the fuel pump at the main relay, engine starts and idles with p72 ecu but when I try to give it a little gas, it bogs so I think its no more than just a fuel issue.
Bad ECU. It could be your adapter harness as well. Try any known good ECU that will plug into your adapter harness... if the car starts, the problem is your P72 ECU. If it still doesn't start, try another adapter harness.

ok thanks. I dont have another obd1 ecu to try so I ordered a new jumper harness from amazon. Worst case I'll return it if not needed. its cheaper than buying a ecu if not needed.
I switched the jumper harness and still no luck. I'm going to replace the ecu. Should I look for p72 or p28 since it's a gsr head but it has a skunk2 manifold?
You are going to need a tuneable engine management solution no matter what ECU platform you choose... a P72 is NOT required since you are using a single plane intake manifold. A P28 with say Hondata s300 would be an excellent choice. I suggested trying a known good ECU just to see if the car starts and runs... and if so, THEN buy a P28 and get a s300 installed and ready for tune.

you figure out the problem? Im dealing with same issue. I heard the IC17 chip is what controls the fuel pump.

I bought a chipped p28 ecu and had a custom chip made from xenochron and it fixed the issue. The p72 that I had was no good. Sold it on ebay "as is" with the jumper harness and made $140 so no loss for me.
