Default obd2-obd1 issues

I'm helping a guy out with his car, and we cant get it to start. its a 2000 ex that had a b18c1 in it that spun a rod bearing, so he bought another b18c1 from a guy, and that motor was running when the guy pulled it to sell it. that motor is now in the car, it only has one plug on the Dizzy, and the head is stamped 95, so I'm assuming its OBD1. he has an obd2b-obd1 jumper harness running a hondata chipped ecu that ran the previous motor fine. he's not sure if the previous motor was obd1 or 2, and someone else did the swap to the current motor, so im not sure which harness was on the old motor, or even what generation of civic this motor was in before. the car cranks, has spark, fuel pressure, and the injectors are clicking. there are a couple plugs on the harness that dont have anywhere to plug into, but what would keep it from starting?

so to see this, you have an OBD1 ecu -> OBD2b jumper harness -> OBD2b harness -> OBD2a or b dist?
i can't imagine it not throwing a code if it isn't right.

obd1 hondata chipped ecu->jumper harness->OBD2b engine harness->big plug dizzy.

I remembered wrong on the distributor plugs, you're right, its the obd2 big plug. is there a sensor that wouldnt let it start if it was wired wrong? I hate cleaning up other peoples messes....

there is a simpler answer to this. A basic Checklist for any dizzy problems..

1. Distributor plugged in
2. Spark from the distributor (plugs, cap, and rotor: check icm if neccessary)
3. Correct Wire Placement
4. Fouled Plugs
5. Correct Timing (could be off 180)

there are two parts that rarely wear out, a magneto and a sensor inside, these are a pain to deal with.

Final thoughts on oyur problem.... USE THE OLD DISTRIBUTOR off the old motor with a spun bearing.

plugged in
good spark
dbl checked firing order
brand new plugs
dizzy slid right in, didnt have to force it. the keyway is slightly off-center, so at 180* off, you have to force it in place.

cant even get the damn thing to pop like it wants to start.

replace the icm. it might not be firing at the right time, not that its not firing, its just not at the right times.

unplug your fuel line and see if you have fuel pressure (just to be sure even though you said you had fuel pressure). there is also another tool that tells you when your injectors are firing.

as for the extra plug ins, they might have used a harness for an automatic.

Double check all of your ground wres, this could be it, if i doesnt get spark off a valv cover bolt, but does off the negative terminal.

icm is new, and i loosened the bolt at the fuel filter and fuel squirted out, grounds looked good and i checked spark on the valvecover bolts.

b18c1, you can install he dizzy 180 pretty easily, spin it and see if it will start... you can advance the timing to the left or rear (not sure if its positive or negative). advance it and try and start the car. it will pop...

another thing,if someone messed with the cams and swapped a set, they may have backed out the adjustment screws and never set them. I could see myself doing that. see if you have a suction on your intake.

dont hijsck someones thread, descibe your problem fully if you cant find a post with the answer already in it. from the sound of it, you just dont know whats wrong with it.... there is verry little difference between obd1 and 2 heads, biggest difference is the distributor. if the original posters problem is solved, then we can continue the discussion here. if not, please start a new post if you cant find an answer already on the forum.
