Default obd2 engine in obd1 car

Anyone done this before
i cant seem to find a obd1 engine and i plan on getting a 5th gen hatch
what is involved with this changeoever, should i find a obd1 ecu and do the ibd2-obd1 change, and what sensors and changes from obd1 to obd2 should i worry about?!?!

the thing about the swap is that im not worried about the actual swap but the wiring and stuff i gotta do to make it run properly, any help would be appreciated

I'm no pro, but i just did the swap and finally wired everything up last night.
You've got the right idea, use the obd1 ecu and your obd1 harness. You'll need some extra leads that plug into the computer, the guys at hasport hooked me up. If your hatch was an Si, you'll only have to wire up a knock sensor, evap purge, and IAB (if using a gsr). The best piece of advice i can give, is go buy a helms manual, and follow it exactly. obd2 does have a second o2 sensor, which you will not need if running an obd1 ecu. i don't know much about obd2, but use the obd1 diagram and make sure everything is there. Good luck!

I just dropped a 2K GSR engine in my EG. I have a P28 ECU(came off a 92-95 Civic EX/SI) chipped by Skunk2 racing, i wired up the vtec soleniod, vtec oil pressure, knock sensor, evap purge, ground etc. I do not have the IAB's hooked up since this ECU does not support them. I took out the cat and replaced it with a testpipe. Good luck.

IAB is the secondary butterfly. With the computer he's running they just stay open all the time, so he's losing some low end power. You can get around that by using a skunk2 intake manifold which doesn't have IAB.

Yes, my intake is open at all times since I use a P28 ECU. I'm in the processs of getting an OBD I P72 ECU, this way, I can utilize my IAB's.

Make sure you are getting of the same year or newer engine and just use your old harness and modify your stock distributor housing to fit you GSR head. Get you Si ecu reprogrammed to GSR specs and you don't have to worry about the knock sensor.
