Default OBD1-OBD2 conversion questions

Has anyone converted their obd1 car over to obd2 for smogging an obd2 engine? I swapped in my motor without really looking into it, then found out it was a 96 obd2 (in my 95 civic) but i want to smog it. Im already converting it to US-spec with the oil pump, CKF sensor and whatnot, and I have all CARB E.O. parts I will need, but Im wondering about the actual dash harness in the car. My brother and I (hes a MECP certified stereo installer) are going to combine the OBD1 and OBD2 dash harnesses so that all of the engine controls are run by the OBD2 harness, and all of the interior stuff, like the gauge cluster and climate control are run by the OBD1 harness. has anyone done this before? any tips, or foreseeable problems? I really want to get this BAR'ed so I can start driving again.
