obd1 b16a1???
i got a b16a1 today it has cable transmission, but it has grey plugs and one o2 sensor so that means it is obd1. so i'm thinking one of 2 things has happened, either the engine supplier put a cable tranny on to what they thought was a b16a1 but the motor is really a b16a2, or, it is from a 1993 acura integra xsi from japan.
so i'm just trying to figure out if i should copmplain to the engine supplier and try to get an obd0 one, or did i get a really good deal. the tranny is a ys1 non lsd. any help would be great thanx!!

You nailed it. It must be an Integra XSi motor.
What type of car are you trying to put it in? If you have a 1992-1993 Integra then that swap will be absolutely perfect, but if you have a pre-OBD car than you will probably go through a lot of trouble trying to put that engine in.
Locating the correct pre-OBD distributor probably won't be easy as importers cling to those to try and make their other cutomers happy if their distributors are fucked when they first get the swap.
There are no USDM substitutes for the first-gen B16A dizzy either.

Re: obd1 b16a1??? (B18C5-EH2)
yea ithat was the worst case scenario. just to make sure though, the b16a2 have the 2 on them right? If i were to put it in a 92 - 95 civic all i would need is a hydro tranny?
how common is it to get one of these motors. i mean, if it is a 92-93 teg motor then should i have a right to take it back to the supplier and get them to give me back a pre-obd motor?
thanx alot for the help by the way.

Re: obd1 b16a1??? (dub204)
the 92-93 xsi integra motor is MUCH better then a preobd one
It comes with a SiR II motor, except the TPS is still firewall mounted...
It comes with a DOPE *** YS1 tranny (alone worth 600)
YS1 tranny you can put ITR LSD, has 4.4 final drive and gears almost identical to USDM type R tranny.
YS1 tranny is rebuildable with USDM 92-93 GSR tranny parts
YS1 tranny is stronger then older trannies
OBD1 runs ALOT beter then preobd, convert ur damn car, takes 5 seconds
buy a harness from blown90hatch obd1 to obd0

All great points about the tranny.
And as far as converting to OBD1 goes, if the guy has the money for the conversion harness then I too say got for it.
Would he not also need to find a complete OBD1 engine harness from any 1992-1995 Civic DX/Si or 1994-1995 Integra? Also the underhood wiring harnesses at the strut tower areas will be different too. They will still use the pre-OBD plugs while the new OBD1 engine harness will have mismatching plugs.
I think he'll still need to find a pre-OBD dizzy so he can keep his underhood engine harness, and then simply run a pre-OBD to OBD1 ECU conversion harness.
Know what I mean? It will definately take more than "5 seconds" don't you think?

Re: obd1 b16a1??? (B18C5-EH2)
thanx for your replys. i think i understand what your saying here, the motor since it is obd1 has 170hp, so if i switch to obd1 i'll have that advantage but then i have to get the conversion harness and switch my underhood wiring harness too. so basically if it seems worth it to me to switch to obd1 then i'll do it, but if its ALOT more hassle for that 10 extra horsepower then i wont.

GO with OBD1!! Your engine will run a lot smoother trust me I have the same swap are you.
I love the YS1 JDM tranny. Best Tranny Out!!! If you need a Dizzy let me know I have a Brand New OBD1 dizzy. I have an extra. Check out your dizzy make sure the rotor is not melted with the magnet. Mine was I couldn't take out the rotor so I gave up bought a new one

naw, if you use blown90hatches obd0 to obd1 ecu converter, you plug that into your exsisting preobd wiring harness, then plug into your obd1 ecu.
Then, take the 4 wire o2 sensor, run it straight to the ecu (really easy, as its rather close to the ecu)
Then, take your obd1 wiring harness, cut the dizzy plugs off, then take your old D series worthless dizzy, cut the plugs off that... Match all the wires and you have an obd0 to obd1 dizzy harness. Thats it! your now fully obd-1, and the best part is, its all plug and play... which leaves your obd0 wiring harness untouched!
